This last Saturday night I was having a bit of entrepreneurial depression. You know the type where you begin to have small little doubts (disguised as questions) creep into your mind.
- Am I doing the right things?
- Am I in the right business?
- Am I in the right profession?
- Am I fulfilling my purpose in life?
- Am I making a positive impact/difference in anyone’s life?
My home business blues even creeped into my Saturday morning mastermind with good friend and fellow freedom Crusader, Rob Skinner.
I told him, “Rob, sometimes it seems like people want all the wrong things.
Fast, easy money, hype, so on and so forth.
Sometimes it’s so tempting to sacrifice your principles because it looks like other things seem to be working better & faster in the market place.
I believe Seth Godin when he says “The long cut is the short cut” but man, it sure seems to take some big time faith while you’re waiting for the long cut to come around, doesn’t it? 🙂
Then, right in the midst of my clouds of confusion, the heavens seem to open and rays of sunlight come shining through to me.
Late Saturday night, I get a very timely email from a gentleman in Kenya named John.
John had joined earlier that day on a trial membership for The Home Business Academy.
I had emailed John to welcome him aboard and to learn a bit more about him.
John proceeds to tell me a fascinating story.
…here’s what he said..
“One day one of my friends in a random discussion was trying to explain to us how master key works, literal master key for opening locks 🙂
That night after checking emails etc I decided to find out more and as usual searched in google ‘Master Key’ and to fast forward, I got this PDF and started reading, the ‘world within is a reflection of world without’ after reading a few paragraphs I came to the realization that I liked the material of this book and I forgot about researching about master key and started finding other books like it.
After sometime I wanted to find more and that’s when I found your video you recorded 4 years ago. (This was a video review on a book called The Master Key System.)
Well that was 3 years ago and my life has improved tremendously.
I have been working as a software developer in freelance sites for a few years.
The job fit me well for I am very introverted and believed for so long, I couldn’t sell until I found your material that encouraged me that I could do this.
So I created an agency for web development that am growing and am on track to earn 100k this year and expand it since its a one man gang for now.”
A guy I’d never heard of found a video I’d forgotten about 4 years ago and followed some of the recommendations, started his own business and is on track for a 6 figure year?
All in another country – Kenya!?
And to get this message on the very night I was wondering if anything I was doing was making a difference.
Thank you John for taking the time to share.
But wait, there’s more…
The very next morning, I accept a friend request from a guy who’d added me on Facebook.. (which I rarely ever do btw).
I see this posted to my wall.
What the heck? Really?
A profound impact on someone through an ebook?
Someone I’d never heard of?
And the very day after I’m wondering if I’m making an impact?
Surely “God moves in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform.”
I’m so grateful that both Stephen and John took the time to share these things with me because for me, they are Universe winks (or God signatures) that maybe, just maybe, I’m on the right path.
Don’t we all need those little confirmations from time to time?
I sure do.
But before I forget, let me get back really quick to the marketing lesson here.
When I talked to Stephen briefly through Facebook messenger, he told me that idea that affected him so, was the concept of getting your leads to pay you to prospect them.
How do you do this?
You market some sort of information product that your target market might find valuable.
When they buy, you’ve earned a commission and therefore when you call them to develop that relationship (and possibly prospect them into your primary business), you know that you’re talking to…
- Someone with some financial resources
- Someone who has enough of a desire to move forward that they decided to buy
- An existing customer
This is one of the best types of prospects in the world to be talking to.
Stephen went on with that 1 idea and built something that caused his prospects to pay him $50,000 the first year he implemented it.
Pretty cool right?
All of this to say that marketing is quite a bit more fascinating than we probably all give it credit for.
Not only can we use it to generate income as freedom crusaders,
… we can use it to change lives.
Lives of people we may not even be aware that we’ve impacted.
So if you’re reading this post and wondering if…
- You’re on the right path
- This marketing game is really for you
- The long cut, (doing things right and sticking to your principles) is really worth the wait and the test it sometimes seems to be…
I sincerely hope these little coincidences (universe winks) can give you some confirmation and/or inspiration, to keep going!
