How To Do A Good Presentation (part 1)

I am super excited to tell you that this literally could be the most important post you’ve ever seen.

I am going to share some things with you that will help you in whatever you do for the rest of your life.

And I know it may sound like a big claim but it’s true!

So I want to invite you to just tune in, shut off distractions and pay attention for just a couple of minutes. Learn the secrets on how to do a good presentation.

How to do a good presentation

So what I wanted to do in this post and in subsequent posts is I wanted to share with you what could be the most valuable piece of information that I’ve ever run across.

I’ve working in the home based business profession now for like nine years and been blessed to have some success.

It didn’t come instantly.

It took me quite a while.

I actually failed in about 14 different companies.

I used to live in a single wide trailer house.

It was literally a long road to where I’m at today wherein I’m actually enjoying the most amazing amount of freedom that I’ve ever had in my entire life.

I have a steady and growing stream of passive income coming into my life that I’m SOOO grateful for.

The point is, I’ve been able to generate some AMAZING freedom in my life and there are some things that were more important in contributing to that than others.

And some of these things I wasn’t consciously aware of but over time, by being around successful people, trying things that didn’t work & Just staying with it.

I started do some these things automatically.

I was at an event not too long ago and one of my mentors shared something that was so valuable, I wrote it down on my journal.

It’s was so valuable that I decided to memorize it.

And it’s so valuable that I want to share it with you over the next few days.

For free!

So what I’m gonna be sharing with you starting today and over the next few days a 12 Steps Sales Formula.

This also happens to be the exact formula for how to do a good presentation.

You can actually swap out the word sales if you want and you can call it the 12 Steps of Influence or the 12 steps Influence formula.

The reason why is because sales is really influence and influence is really sales.

Sometimes we kid ourselves and we think we don’t like sales and you know maybe there are some aspects of sales that we don’t like and there are definitely some that I don’t like.

But the truth is, if we want to have success in anything we do in life, we need influence.

This is expecially relavant when talking about how to do a good presentation.

A good presentation will influence people will it not?

We need to be able to influence people.

We need to be able to have people trust us, like us, look to us as an authority – And be willing to follow our recommendations.

If you’re in a network marketing business, you gotta be able to do that, so that people will:

#1 look at your business

#2 decide to join

Maybe they decide to buy your products and services.

It all comes from influence.

One of my former mentors actually built a company that produced I think over 100M dollars in sales.

He did it entirely using this 12 step formula.

I’d been working with him for years and never heard him reveal this formula before.

He may have taught it in pieces but at this event in Charlotte, this was the first time that I’ve heard him actually list these items out.

As I thought about these items, I noticed some things that I have done automatically over my journey in the home business profession.

I noticed some areas that I can improve on too.

I noticed some things that I’m not doing yet – and that I can do now as I continue to step forward into my better future.

And so my hope in sharing this with you is that you can learn from these and you can apply these in your business and you can have more influence and you can have better results in your business and make more money and ultimately have more freedom…

…because that’s why we’re in these businesses, isn’t it?

So the 12 steps on how to do a good presentation.

What I’m gonna do is I’m gonna be breaking this up over the next few days.

And today what I want to do is I want to share with you step number 1 and step number 2.

And then I might actually share with you a couple examples of these.

This is something that you want to copy and memorize.

Because even if you decide not to stay in sales, even if you decide not to stay in network marketing, you’re going to want to influence people.

You’re going to want to influence your kids.

You’re going to want to influence the people you work with.

You’re going to want to influence the people around you.

You’re going to want to be a positive force for the good of the world and these can help you.

Step number 1: Get attention.

Step number 1 is you want to get attention.

Step number 1 is you want to reach through the video or the blog post, or across the table – and you want to grab people and you want to say,

…“Hey listen, what you’re about to watch is important.  Pay attention.”

If you’ll notice, at the start of this blog post, what I did, is I said is that this post could be the most important post you’ve ever seen in your entire life.

And I meant it because it can.

Influence is powerful.

So you want to get people’s attention.

One of the ways you could do that is simply by telling them what they’re going to get by watching your video, what they’re going to get by going to your presentation, what they’re going to get, what benefit to them are they going to have by sticking around and paying attention.

So that’s step number 1 on how to do a good presentation.

You want to do this in your videos.

You want to do this in your emails.

You want to do this in your blog posts.

You want to do this in your presentation.

You want to get attention.

You want to get people to pay attention what you want to share.

That’s step number 1.

Pretty easy. Right?

Step number 2: Get rapport – A crucial step in how to do a good presentation.

One definition of rapport is responsiveness.

It’s this thing that happens between two people where the guard goes down.

And there’s this feeling that you can trust this person.

This person has my best interest at heart.

While I was doing a lot of phone prospecting on my way to freedom, which I did a lot of.

I used to call it ‘make a friend’.

There was a 3 step formula that I followed.

Step number 1 – Make a friend

Step number 2 – Find a need

Step number 3 – Suggest a solution

And in the ‘make a friend part’, what I was really doing was getting rapport.

When you’re making a friend, you share commonalities, when you’re saying to someone,

“Oh! You’ve got kids?

I’ve got kids too!

Isn’t it great having kids?”

“You’re from Idaho?

Hey, I’m from Idaho too.” … so on and so forth.

The guard goes down and the responsiveness goes up.

And that’s rapport in a one on one conversation.

I think the reason my mentor says, rapport is different from  friendship, is because although you can get rapport and responsiveness in a one on one conversation, in a one on one presentation and in a phone call by making a friend.

You can also get it through a video.

You can also get it through an audio.

You can get it in LARGE groups of people during a presentation and with many that you are NOT friends with.

The attractiveness of internet marketing is you can literally get rapport en mass with a large group of people in a short amount of time through things like video.

You can get responsiveness through these tools of mass communication.

You don’t have to necessarily pick up the phone and build a relationship, make a friend with every single person one by one by one by one.

If you’re getting started, that might not be a bad thing to do.

It worked for me.

It helped me tremendously in winning my freedom but it’s not necessary.  You can get rapport through video presentations, webinar presentations – etc. without ever even talking one on one with the person.

How can we get rapport?

When we’re on videos, we can share stories.

A lot of times when I’m hosting the Think and Grow Rich call, I share stories about my children.
There’s couple of reasons I do that.

Number 1 – I love my kids and I love talking about them.  🙂

Number 2 – I always learn great lessons from my kids

Number 3 – When people hear me talking about my children, they tend  to say to themselves,

“Man, this Paul is a real guy.

He’s got kids, he loves his family.

He’s a real guy.

He cares about his kids.”

And that builds rapport or responsiveness or trust in the people listening to those messages.

When creating your marketing messages, from now moving into the future, whether on a phone call or whether it’s in the video or in a conference call, remember these two steps.

Get attention and get rapport.

And I’m going to share with you the third step in tomorrow’s Post.

What experiences do you have where people have gotten your attention and/or gained rapport with you?

Are there things you  do that seem to work well for these 2 steps?

I’d love to hear down below.
