My New Hero

We all need heroes in life.

People to inspire us and live out the success archetype so we can see that greatness can and still does unfold.

I found this in a new way for myself over the last few days.

Last night I went to bed excited and inspired.

And I woke up the same way.

My new hero?

Elon Musk : The World’s Most Remarkable Entrepreneur

The weird thing is, I’d heard plenty of him before.

Heck I’d even read his biography by Ashely Vance.

But somehow, I after all that, I still didn’t get it.

I didn’t realize the magnitude, and the scope what he’s doing and why he’s doing these things with his companies.

Then, the other day friend, subscriber and fellow freedom crusader Nicole Stoddard, sent me this in depth post series on Elon and his companies.

After reading them, I’m blown away.

You’ll have to read them yourself (if you haven’t yet already) to get the full essence of inspired entrepreneur blowed awayness I’m talking about here,

…but here are a few quick highlights.

With one of his companies, SpaceX, Elon has a vision to put 1 million people on Mars and turn the human race into a multi planetary species.

What but what?  And Why?

Briefly…

  • To save the human race from potential future mass extinction events, 5 of which scientists say have happened in our planets history already and therefore, more are likely to follow at some point in the future.
  • To ‘Back up the hard drive of humanity’ since we seem to be at, by far, the most exciting time to be alive relating to how  far intelligence, science & technology have advanced.
  • Because humanity needs a reason to wake up in the morning excited and inspired and according to Elon, nothing could be more exciting and inspiring than realizing that humans are colonizing another planet in our solar system.

At first glance, all of this sounds nuts to most people and that’s one of the things that make’s what he’s doing so dang inspiring!

Check out this touching clip where the some of the very people who inspired Elon, criticized him and his mission.

Stories like this feed the soul, don’t they?

Where someone has a big dream,

People say “You can’t do that.”

And the go forth and do it anyway.

In the process of getting to his goal of colonizing Mars, he first had to build a profitable company that would fund the venture, develop the technology from ground zero, and reduce the cost of space travel all at the same time.

Despite extreme opposition from many seemingly insurmountable places, he’s done all of the above.

One of the keys to reducing the cost of space travel was to figure out a way to reuse the rockets, as this was a massive part of the cost of launching both things and people into space.

The fact that the vast majority of the equipment was ruined, and discarded in the launch process was something that had to be overcome.

They realized that if instead of the rockets burning up and burying themselves in the ocean after launch, they could be brought safely down to Earth for re-use, the costs of launch (and eventual space travel) could be dramatically reduced.

After a few failed attempts, a moment of triumph captured by National Geographic.

DANG!

This guy!

All this, in just one of his companies!

To me Elon Musk is a living breathing mixture of Edison/Ford/Carnegie/Marconi and more.

He is the essence of the spirit of pioneering entrepreneurship.

He reminds us that big visions inspire.

He reminds us that big problems can be overcome.

He reminds us that with truth on your side, critics don’t matter.

He reminds us that there is greatness in the spirit of humanity.

He reminds us that we can wake up with be excitement and inspiration each and every day.

He reminds us that having money, and doing something great with that money are 2 totally different things.

Elon Musk : My New Hero  🙂
