As a side note: If you want to give me a birthday gift I’ll truly treasure, you might consider leaving me a comment at the bottom of this post.  (shameless plug, I know)  🙂

Over my years in home business I’ve been blessed and fortunate to connect with a lot of people via phone, especially in my hard core phone prospecting days.

One of the things that was always apparent to me is the difference there is in the way people view aging.

Have you noticed this in your personal circles?

Some people tend to view aging negative ways.

Others view aging in positive ways.

And have you noticed that these views seem to manifest?

One guy I know, is well in his 80’s and he’s one of the happiest, vibrant, positive people I know.  He’s a great example of how I want to be as I continue to progress in life.

On the assumption that maybe thoughts really are things, here are 5 inspirationally age-defying thoughts to consider regarding birthdays and age that just might help to keep our minds and bodies as vibrant and active as our spirits, as the years continue to unfold.  🙂

Inspiring Birthday Thought #1 – A powerful quote on aging by the amazing Dr. Napoleon Hill

When you think of age – what comes to your mind?

In the book Think And Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill gives us a GREAT quote about aging that I always love to remember and share with people whenever this topic comes up.

Are you ready for it?

Here it is…

“Age is a great blessing that brings with it wisdom, self control and understanding, not known to youth.”

Isn’t that something that can really be true AND at the same time, possibly serve as a powerful and constructive belief we can adopt, serving as our very own fountain of youth?

Inspiring Birthday Thought #2 – The Backwards Birthday

In Grow Rich With Peace of Mind, Napoleon Hill’s  last book, he talks about something I’ve come to call “The Backward’s Birthday.”

Here’s how it works.

Once Napoleon Hill got to a certain age, let’s say 50 or 60, for each successive birthday he would subtract a year, vs. add a year.  For that year he would celebrate his “Backwards Birthday” by paying attention to the things that particular age group were interested in.

The books, music, trends etc.

He said this served as a great practice for keeping his ming young and invigorated.

Inspiring Birthday Thought #3 – Better Than Ever As The Years Go By

One of the things that really inspires me are the people who seem to get sharper as the years go by.

Can you think of examples of people like this?

One example, is Napoleon Hill.  If you do happen to read his last book, which I mentioned above, try to remember that it was written in his 80’s.

His mind shine’s through that book like a crisp and clear spring morning.  It’s truly a great example of someone who made a decision to get better and better as the year’s went by.

Another example for me from my close family relationships is my Grandpa Ford.  He’s 96 and his memory is amazing!  He can recite lengthy poems that he memorized years and years ago and continues to inspire anyone who has the chance to listen to him.

Some people believe that the memory fades and worsens with age but my Grandpa Ford is a shining example to me that that doesn’t have to be the case!

Inspiring Birthday Thought #4 – Birthdays Can Remind Us To Stay Humble

This might be a strange thing to think about, but if we’ll remember this on our Birthday’s, I think it can really serve us.

I recently read a very interesting set of books and one of the ideas shared, (relating to birthdays) was especially thought proving.

The author of this book said that as far as data goes, there are 4 classifications we can place information.

  1. Things we know
  2. Things we assume to know
  3. Things we believe
  4. Things that we don’t know

Things we know are those things that lie within our direct field of personal observation and are things we can personally verify.

Example:  You know you exist.  You know other people exist.  Etc.

Here’s where the birthday tie comes in…

Things we assume to know, are things that we sometimes tell ourselves we know simply because they seem to be highly probably based on what trusting authorities tell us.

Example: The earth is round.  You were born on a certain day, place and time.

In both of these examples – we typically wouldn’t hesitate to say “I know the earth is round” or, “I know I was born on ______”, even though truthfully, we probably don’t really know that information.

We assume to know it based on what we’ve been told from credible sources.

All this to say that remembering this on our Birthday, can help us to remain humble as we realize how limited our actual knowledge truly is.

This helps to cultivate an open mind which seems to be one of the great sources of a fresh outlook for continual growth, which just might serve to help us stay young. 🙂

Inspiring Birthday Thought #5 – Remembering The Gift of Life

Birthdays’ can help us to remember and reflect upon the fact, that each of us was given the ultimate gift of a life here on this planet earth.

We came equipped with a consciousness that instantly, right from the mother’s womb, began to receive sense impressions of this amazing world around us.

Sure, life is not always easy, but isn’t it true that consciousness and life is gift?

Day 1 of our lives on this planet, began with us, as far as I know, on the receiving end of the scale.

Remembering this important fact, helps me to be grateful AND, helps me to remember that with the receipt of this great gift of life, comes a responsibility to do the best that I can to give as much as I can in return for this amazing blessing.

A quote comes to mind that express this thought well…

Life is God’s gift to us, how we live our lives is our gift to God.

So there you have it my friend.

My top 5 Inspirationally Age Defying Birthday thoughts for a strong, happy, vibrant mind as we continue to travel this road of life.
