Last night on our private members only mastermind I shared a simple recruiting tip that’s really helped me over the years.
First a story.
I was recently chatting with a fellow networker who endeavored to pitch me on his business.
After I’d told him I was not open, I went on to try to develop a bit of relationship with him.
Several times, during this process, he’d bring up random stories & facts about the thing he wanted me to buy, mid-conversation in places that felt totally random and awk ward.
Here’s the affect it had.
His approach made me feel like he was more interested in my money than he was about me or where I wanted to go in life.
As a prospect, this was a turn-off.
Here’s the view I take in the recruiting process.
I try to care more about the person and where they want to go than I care about them buying my products or services.
If someone is perfectly happy with what they’re doing – they like it – and they’re earning all the money they want – I really have no interest in recruiting them or selling them anything.
I only want people who can be served by what I bring to market to buy or join.
I believe this mindset has 2 major positive effects on the recruiting process.
First, it helps my friends and prospects to feel that their best interest is my #1 priority and this develops a relationship of rapport and trust so that I become a trusted advisor rather than an annoying salesperson.
The response rate between the 2 is dramatic.
Second, because I care more about them, their problems and their dreams I become a much better inviter because I can frame my products, services & business in the most attractive way by positioning them as solutions for helping my prospect to get to where they want to go.
I know it can be a challenge, especially if you’re just getting started in the networking or home business space because money is such a huge priority.
Trust me though, if you can find a way to make your prospect one step higher on the priority ladder than making a sale or recruiting a rep – you’ll likely end up making way more sales, recruiting more reps and earning much more cashola in the long run.
