Last night, I fell asleep listening to a podcast interview with famed investor Ray Dalio.
I drifted off to sleep with his analysis of the divided and rapidly transforming state of the U.S.A. and the world at large.
(Yeah, probably not the best thing to plant in your unconscious mind as you go to la-la land, but who said I was perfect?). 😉
Anyway, he highlighted 2 big problems facing our coming futures.
- Irreconcilable political differences between the left and the right.
- how globalization has already taken so many jobs away from working-class citizens and that the problem is bound to compound at record speed as A.I. makes more and more jobs obsolete.
As I survey the situation, I can’t see that his analysis is too far off base.
Generally speaking, I try not to spend too much time thinking about problems, especially ones I can’t control, because it can make you sad and typically doesn’t improve the situation.
I woke up this morning, thankful that at least I have something to offer this beautiful and partly troubled world.
Humble offerings, yes, but offerings nonetheless.
First, on the political front.
Last Thursday on our Grow Rich Mastermind, one of my dear friends talked about how she and her sister find themselves on polar opposite sides of the political debate, and how sometimes, when the topic comes up, it causes contention.
In fact, over the last couple of weeks, her sister said, after one of their conversations, ‘I should probably leave.‘
My friend told her sister, ‘No, please stay. I love you.’ (or something like that).
She went on to say that in discussions like this, she’s gonna try and remember the phrase
‘You might be right…’
and focus on how loving her sister will always be far more important than any political or philosophical difference.
I shared a quote with her that’s one of my new favs…
“In a war of ego, the loser always wins.”
The humble offering?
A philosophy that DOES seem to draw people together in love and unity despite differences.
This is the philosophy of success, that we study on our morning Grow Rich mastermind every day, Monday through Friday.
It includes a few little principles for living and working successfully with others like…
- Cooperation
- The Golden Rule
- Tolerance (I may not agree with you, but I can love you anyway).
We study these (and other) principles every day Monday – Friday and this call is free for anyone to attend.
This is one little way, we can shine a little light, into the dark and dreary world of dividing differences.
The idea that I can make some small little positive difference here, is one of the things that inspires me most to wake up each day and strive to do my little part.
As hopeless as things sometime seem to be based on what’s reported in the news, it’s important to remember there’s always hope and we have power to be the change we wish to see in the world, beginning with where we stand.
The 2nd Problem – Disapearing Jobs
One of the truly mind blowing experiences of my recent life, is to experience, firsthand, the rate of improvement in my self driving car.
*This is a pic I took after a cross country trip to our Freedom Fest event in Charlotte NC.
This week as my family and I left a hockey game, I tapped a little stalk on the side of steering wheel, sat back to relax, & then watched my car drive us all the way home.
I’m talking turn signals, turns, slowing down behind cars in front me, passing cars and swerving to miss big piles of snow or ice in the road, etc.
Last night I pulled into a driveway to pickup my 13 year old son from a party at his friends house.
He wanted me to start the self driving from a dead stop in the driveway to see if it could do it.
I heard him whisper “No way!” as the car backed up from the house, turned itself around in the driveway using a 3 point turn while avoiding other cars, pulled out onto the road and drove us home.
When I’m parking this car, it shows a visualization of the parking spaces as I pass them. I can click on any of the spaces and the car will park itself.
All of this to say, I can see the writing on the wall.
Jobs will be eliminated.
On the one had, I LOVE the advancement in technology because it makes my life so much easier and enjoyable.
On the other, my heart goes out to all the workers and their families who’s livelihoods will be affected by the coming automation technology.
Here again, I don’t have a perfect be all end all solution.
But I do have a humble one.
On another podcast i listened to last week, Naval Ravikant, a successful venture capitalist said
“Yes, jobs will be displaced BUT, they will be replaced by a HUGE new field of expanding opportunities.”
Those who can see and take advantage of the abundant new field of opportunities won’t just survive the coming shift, they’ll thrive in it.
The key: Adapability & the willingness to acquire new skills. This will position one to be in prime position for the transition from ‘job’ to ‘creator’ economy.
It used to be that business building & new skill acquisition seemed like the wise thing to do.
As the future continues to unfold, it appears it’s the essential thing to do.
NEWSFLASH: The politicians have no plan for us here. (another point Ray Dalio made in his interview).
We must have the plan, and as home business entrepreneurs we do.
There’s never been a better, more exciting, more opportunity filled time to be a home business entrepreneur, if you’re one who’s committed to,
- being the change philisophically by choosing to show love, patience and goodwill in ALL your relationships & interactions online and off.
- being the change practically, by taking charge of your future via daily skill acquisition & personal growth.
Happy and thankful to be on this journey with you and super thankful you stopped by to read this post.
Love to hear your thoughts below.
Upward and onward,
Paul
