A while back I went on a bike ride with my four boys.
Something interesting happened.
The second we got to where we were going to ride – we all took off down the lane.
Next thing I know, me and my three oldest boys are at the end of the Road and Kashton my youngest
(Despite peddling his little heart out)
..is only halfway there.
Kyson my five-year-old says “see you guys, I was trying to get you to slow down and wait for Kashton.”
So on the way back my two oldest boys peddled far ahead.
I’m lagging behind to bring up the rear.
I roll up behind Kashton and Kyson to see Kyson purposefully peddling slowly behind his younger brother.
Then I hear Kyson say…
“Wow Kashton, you are FAST!
I can’t even keep up with you.”
Kyson looks at me with a smile.
I proudly smile back and give him a thumbs up.
Maybe it’s not all about being the biggest, the strongest, the fastest or having the biggest paycheck.
Loving kindness sure counts for something in my book.
John Maxwell said, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
After that race Kyson was the clear winner in my mind, teaching me a great lesson on leadership, in the process.
