Question for you: Do you ever feel unmotivated, down, discouraged, depressed and/or have any other emotion that makes you feel like you just don’t want to move forward?
If so, the good news is, you’re not alone.
I think we all go through times like this.
One of my friends who’s earned over a million dollars from home, was just telling me the other day that he still goes through times like this occasionally.
It really seems like the question is not, if but when are we going to hit another one of these periods in our life (if we’re not already in one)… And more importantly, how do we get out of these funks and re ignite the fire as fast as humanly possible.
Here are my top 5 tips for living a more positive, passionate and enthused life.
1 – Contribution
Yesterday I had an experience that I think I’ll always remember. I got a phone call from a lady at an organization our company donates a little money to.
Every month, since we’ve been in business we’ve taken a very small portion of all our sales, and sent it off to this organization that seems to do such an amazing job at helping to feed hungry kids around the world.
Yesterday I received this voice message..
I can’t even begin to tell you how this message made me feel on the inside.
When I called this lady back, I kept saying, “Our community is just happy to be able to help in some small way”, and she would stop me and say “You guys are helping in a BIG way!”
Knowing that I’m a part of something that is contributing to the lives of others is a feeling that is just priceless and, I’m telling you, can add so much passion and purpose to our lives.
One other quick example of this is when I served a 2 year church mission in Taiwan.
Here’s a pic of my grandpa and I left my family.
Religion, philosophy, or any organized belief system aside, here was the bottom line for me on that experience.
For 2 years, I forgot about earning a living, buying stuff for myself, and learned to focus as close to 100% as possible on helping other people.
There was a deep, profound and indescribable feeling of passion and purpose that carried me through 2 years of challenging experiences… (learning mandarin chinese) being one of them.
Napoleon Hill once wrote “Learn this lesson and don’t ever forget it, that you will find happiness only by helping others to find it.”
Contribution 🙂
2 – Connection
2 of my favorite quotes from John Maxwell are…
Leaders touch a heart, before they ever ask for a hand.
and,
If you take time to build relationships, you will find fulfillment wherever you go.
When I’m really connecting with someone on a personal level, I find that my energy is magnified.
Have you had that experience?
Like when you have a great conversation with a friend.
Or when you have a stimulating mastermind discussion with a business partner.
Or maybe even when you’ve been able to offer a kind word to someone at just the right time and in just the right way.
I think if we were supposed to be alone in life, God would have made millions of individual deserted islands and placed each of us on one.
But that’s not how it is.
Here we are, together, and I think the more we can embrace that, the more fulfillment, passion and charge we will have.
3 – Community
An extension of connection is “Community.”
Aligning with a group of people who’s hearts beat to the rhythm of the same drum.
We just got finished with the Solar Eclipse and one thing I couldn’t help thinking about when I was looking up at the sun through my funky glasses…
… was that, during that exact moment, millions of other people were doing the same thing, in unison.
So much of the hate, the fighting, the complaining, the political drama, all ceased for a moment in time, where we all metaphorically speaking, locked arms together and looked to the light.
For me, this is what being a part of a powerful group is like.
We have the same vision (light), we move in unity, and we have goodwill towards each other.
We resonate on a soul level with similar beliefs.
We remind each other that we’re not alone.
So much of my passion and purpose in life comes from being aligned with groups of people who get this.
4 – Content
I told myself the other day that “I’m addicted to inspiration.”
I think without inspiration, life can be dreary place.
2 men looked out from prison bars,
one saw the mud, the other, the stars.
We can look toward the mud or the stars, it’s our choice.
Like a garden, it seems that the natural tendency is to grow weeds (look a the mud), and we have to be ever vigilant in plucking those weeds and planting flowers in their place.
For me, this is what content can do.
We read books, listen to audios, engage in great conversation all in the attempt to find some inspiration and direction for our lives.
And often, the simple act of digesting content, can get our brains moving in ways where we’ll have more hope, faith and encouragement and even be led to new ideas that weren’t even in the content we were consuming.
Jim Rohn pointed out, “The Bible says that human beings shall not live by bread alone, but by words.” He went on to say that “words nourish the mind, words nourish the soul.”
For me, enlightened words from a great book are like stars in the night sky. They glisten back at us, shine hope into our hearts, speak to us of the essence of the infinite and give us light for the journey a head.
Yes, consistently consuming great content, my friends seems to be HUGE key, to living a charged and inspired life.
5 – Compelling Future
And of course, as my friend Rick Martin says, “Without faith in the future, there is no power in the present.”
When you have a vision for yourself and your future that’s compelling, it pulls you forward through life like you’re flying behind the wheels of a freight train.
Right now, some of friends of mine and I are in a weight loss and nutrition challenge.
I draw great energy and enthusiasm from this, knowing that I have a stronger, fitter, trimmer body waiting for me.
What do you see for yourself in your future?
Is it compelling? Does it make you smile inside, and breath in deeply the fresh air of faith to your soul?
If not, maybe it’s time to revise.
So there you have it my friend.
My top 5 keys to living a more charged life.

PS – If you’re looking for a great place to donate money to, this is an organization that I think is worth taking a very close look at.
Thank you for this post Paul! You are so very spot on with your points about the components of an inspired & inspiring life. Just what I needed to read today!
ahhh thanks Laura!
So happy you got some value from this post… Thanks for letting me know!
Nice post, Paul. When we turn our thought to others, we forget what it was that was bothering us.
Isn’t that the truth! Thanks so much Christy for taking the time to stop by and for demonstrating this principle in real life by taking the time to leave a comment for me… .. I sure do appreciate you!
