Over the last 2 days, I’ve spoken with 2 of my customers who are also customers/distributors in other network marketing organizations.
When I was younger in my career, these moments would prompt in me a sense that I needed to evangelize and help them see the light of why our ‘thing‘ was so much better than the other ‘thing’ so that maybe they would ‘have a change of heart‘ and begin to promote the thing that I was promoting.
At other times leaders in my organization that I and others had given exposure to, left, and began to recruit “my” team into their new thing, I experienced internal conflict which now I believe resulted from a desire to control something that never really was in my control.
At this point in my journey I’ve come, thankfully, to realize that we don’t own people.
Your down line is not your down-line.
It’s a group of souls who all have their own free will and choice.
A better position is to love them, believe in them, wish them well in whatever they choose to build, stay in touch and let them know you’re there to help them however you can.
Then focus on building your business and team while endeavoring to create something so good that it attracts and keeps, rather than pushes and manipulates.
I totally understand the desire to protect and preserve what you and others have built, but if that protection comes at the cost of robbing another of his or her freedom, maybe that ‘protection‘ has cost too much.
