Have you ever wondered if there were – timeless messages of inspiration –
…maybe even divine sets of instructions that you could apply to your life to live more successfully?
I know I have.
I remember a time in my life when I felt very lost & alone.
From the outside looking in, everything looked good.
I was going to college – I had “friends”, and my grades were good – but on the inside it was dark.
You see…
I’d struggled with drug & alcohol addition for several years.
Part of the reason I moved away to go to college was to get away from my problems.
Have you ever tried to run from something – only to discover it followed you?
That’s what happened to me.
In any case, I remember one night – feeling so broken and defeated.
I wondered if there was purpose to life.
I wondered if there was a God – and if there was – did He have any sort of plan for me?
I remember kneeling down in my apartment bedroom and praying with all my heart.
Have you ever prayed so hard that you cried, inside and out?
Yeah this was one of those prayers.
Anyway – long story short – I discovered a book – that gave me some inspiration.
I remember reading it late into the night – being fascinated,
..because it seemed to contain answers to the questions I was asking.
I don’t know why inspiration seems to come when it does.
But I DO know that it’s there for us, if we look.
Don’t worry – this is not a post to try to convert you to any sort of religion or anything like that.
Personally – I get a little frustrated when people try to speak for and in behalf of God.
Seems to cause a lot of confusion (in my humble opinion)
I’m a student of success and I’m committed to seeking out the best ideas wherever I can find them.
I remember Jim Rohn saying one time –
Beware of anyone who comes along claiming to have discovered a new principle. That’s like someone claiming to have discovered a way to manufacture antiques.
That being said, i dunno why I was a tad surprised to find so many success laws in The Sermon On The Mount this morning as I read in my morning study.
There there it was – in plain sight….
Secret Guide to Fast Success With 11 Success Tips From The Sermon On The Mount
So let’s get to it.
Sermon On The Mount Success Tip 1: Blessed Are They That Hunger And Thirst
..for they shall be filled.
Wow –
Right out the gate!
I remember a story my mentor tells all the time about a great Amway legend named Bill Britt.
One day one of his team members approaches him and wants to know the secret to becoming a diamond.
Bill asks “Are you sure you REALLY wanna know?”
‘Yes of course,” he replies.
Bill grabs his head and holds it under water.
The man struggles for a bit.
Bill holds it down some more.
The people standing around watching this incredible scene are starting to get nervous and feeling very uncomfortable inside.
Finally, after what seems like an eternity, Bill lets the man out of the water and says the following.
“When you want to go Diamond – as bad as you just wanted air to breathe – that’s when you’ll hit it”
In other words – “Blessed are they they hunger and thirst, for they shall be filled”
Sermon On The Mount Success Tip 2: Blessed Are You When People Shall Persecute And Talk Trash About You
ha ha.. Ok – so I changed the wording a bit.
The real verse says something like
“Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and say all manner of evil against you.”
The other day – I was a special guest on a hangout for some other awesome affiliates inside my company.
I did the best I could to share my story and inspire the viewers.
After the hangout I was browsing the some of the comments –
…and I noticed that one lady had said the following in reference to Napoleon Hill’s advice to – repeat your definite purpose and self confidence formula.
“I stay away from repeating the same words again and again because that’s how you open yourself up and give access to the demons that possess your body”
ummmmmmmmmm…
Ok – well – let’s just say that people are not always going to say nice things about you while you’re crusading for freedom.
This is just one, teeny – tiny example.
Another was when my Aunt, one day, pointed to my home (which happened to be a single-wide trailer-house) and said..
“I can’t believe your wife puts up with you keeping your family cramped in this tiny little shack.”
Ouch right?
In any case- when this stuff happens – maybe we can remember this line from the Bible that tells us that REALLY –
we’re blessed.
It usually means we’re going agains the crowd a bit.
Emerson put it this way….
“Not until we are pricked, and stung, and sorely shot at, awakens the indignation which arms itself with secret forces.”
Good one right?
One of my favs!
Sermon On The Mount Success Tip 3: Blessed Are The Salty 🙂
Mathew 5:13 13 ¶Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Success in business and in life – takes SPUNK.
Salt without the salty taste is bland.
Sort of like that other line in the Bible somewhere that says –
if you’re luke warm you’ll be SPEWED out of the mouth.
You wanna be Salty.
You wanna have Purpose,
you wanna have confidence,
you wanna have imagination & leadership.
You wanna be enthusiastic about your vision and the work your’e about.
This is, in my humble opinion – is having a salty soul FULL of flavor. 🙂
Overcoming failure makes us salty in the soul as well.
Whenever I tell my story and talk about all the times I could have quit – but didn’t – I GET FIRED UP!
There is NO way I could be this salty without having gone through some heartbreaking and soul-testing temporary setbacks.
Have some FLAVA FLAV and be PROUD OF IT!
Sermon On The Mount Success Tip 4: Shine Your LIGHT!
These are some of my favorite lines in the whole Bible.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
So many people walk around, like Maxwell Maltz says, with hangdog expressions on their face – pointing their eyes toward the ground.
Law of Success #2 is SELF – confidence and these lines –
…more than any other that I’m aware of in all of literature – seem to give us permission to DEVELOP our light and SHINE THAT BABY everywhere.
Not so we can lift ourselves up and proclaim superiority.
Because we’re not better or worse that other Human beings.
But rather – to give an example – to show others what’s possible…
To show others that YES – they TOO can be the best they can be and, not only not be ashamed of it…
But USE it to lift others up.
Such a great illustration of Success Law #2 – Self confidence.
Sermon On The Mount Success Tip 5: You Can Be The Greatest.
Have you ever heard the lyrics from the song “Hall Of Fame” by The Script?
It says ‘You can be the greatest’ among other very empowering words.
I recommend you listen if you haven’t heard this song.
In any case – the Bible not only tells seems to corroborate this – it also tells us HOW to be the greatest.
Mathew 5:19 “but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great…”
In my very first year of network marketing – my mentor told me the magic formula for success.
Learn, do, teach.
In my current company – my mentor tells me the same formula.
Learn – Do – teach.
Seems to be pretty good advice for success eh?
Sermon On The Mount Success Tip 6: Agree With Thine Adversary Quickly
Mathew 5:25 – Agee with thine adversary quickly.
This is one of the GREATEST pieces of advice to help us with Law Of Success #9 – A pleasing personality.
Bruce Lee told us to be like water.
One of the ways to be like water in your business is to quickly recognize the stones…
… and flow around them.
We are flowing down the hill picking up those who are ready to swim to a better future with us.
The sinkers are the stinking thinkers – agree with them quickly and move on…
Sermon On The Mount Success Tip 7: Pluck Out The Offender
Mathew 5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body…
This morning I was also reading from a book called The Secret Code of Success by Noah St. John.
In it – he gave one of the BEST time management strategies I’ve EVER seen.
He said to draw a T across the page.
On top of the T – you put your desired outcome.
On the left of the T – you write down all the activities that are leading you toward your outcome – your productive activities.
On the right – you put down all the activities that are NOT leading you toward your outcome.
Every day – you want to carefully evaluate the left side and if some activity creeps over that is NOT leading you toward your outcome –
you wanna pluck that baby out JUST like the Bible says. 🙂
Sermon On The Mount Success Tip 8: Do Don’t Say
Mathew 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
Here’s a great quote from Think and Grow Rich that can help to put this in success perspective.
“Tell the world what you intend to do but first SHOW it”
and here are some more wise words from Dr. Hill on the matter.
It is characteristic of those who have but a smattering of veneer of knowledge to try to give the impression that they have much knowledge.
Such people generally do too much talking and too little listening.
Remember that every time you open your mouth in the presence of a person who has an abundance of knowledge, you display to that person, your exact stock of knowledge or your LACK OF IT!
Nuff said right?
Sermon On The Mount Success Tip 9: Go The Extra Mile
Have you heard of the principle to go the extra mile?
Napoleon Hill lists this as Law Of Success #8.
Did you know the Bible is very clear on going the extra mile?
(literally) 😉
It states it this way.
Mathew 5:41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
What does ‘twain’ mean?
Ahh… I’m glad you asked – I had to look it up myself.
It means 2. 🙂
So if you’re wondering why this blog post is so darn long – you can blame Napoleon Hill, Neil Patel and The Bible.
BWA HA HA HA.
Ok but seriously.
This extra mile is making me tired so I’m gonna put a bow on this bad boy.
Quick Re-cap – The Bible says to be successful.
How?
1. Know exactly what you want & hunger & thirst for it.
2. Ignore the critics & naysayers & call yourself blessed when people talk trash.
3. Be salty – have spunk- FILL YOUR SOUL WITH FIRE!
4. Have confidence in your self and SHINE THAT LIGHT!
5. Be the GREATEST by doing and teaching.
6. Practice The Pleasing Personality trait of Being agree-able
7. Pluck out offenders of non productive activities from your daily schedule.
8. Actions speak louder than words. DO, more that you SAY.
9. Go the extra mile in all that you do.
Thanks for reading my friend!
