Luck

This last weekend I was traveling with my friend Andrew and the topic of ‘luck‘ came up in our discussions.

He was telling me about a friend of his who now owns a very successful heavy equipment business and how it seemed that luck played a role in his success because his friend sort of fell into the right jobs and connections leading up to his success.

After a bit of discussion Andrew and I both agreed that maybe, there is such a thing as luck – but here’s the problem,

…you can’t bank on it.

Maybe sometimes what we refer to as luck, is really favorable circumstances.

Favorable circumstances without the will to seize and make the most of them, is worthless.

Unfavorable circumstances with the will seize and maximize opportunities – is priceless.

The trucking guy may have had some favorable circumstances – but didn’t he also seize those opportunities by mastering his craft and venturing out to to start a business of his own?

Perhaps there’s more to ‘luck‘ than meets the eye and the searching soul can find a bit more substance beneath the shallow surface of what we like to call luck.’
