And why passing it might be easier than you think
I was nineteen years old, driving down a country road, and shouting at the windshield as I pounded the steering wheel.
“I QUIT MOUNTAIN DEW!”
I yelled it again, louder. “I QUIT MOUNTAIN DEW!”
Mountain Dew wasn’t just my favorite drink in high school—it was my only drink. I was completely addicted. If they’d offered a Mountain Dew IV drip, I probably would’ve signed up. So there I was, listening to a Tony Robbins audio program, when he said something that stopped me cold:
“Change happens instantly. All it takes is a decision.”
Something clicked. I made the decision right there, screamed it out loud like a madman, and you know what?
It was years later before I touched another Mountain Dew, and here, decades later, I rarely ever drink them.
It was much, much easier than I thought it would be.
The Test Nobody Talks About
Here’s the uncomfortable truth about running a home business: The biggest obstacle isn’t the market, the economy, your competition, or even rejection. It’s the person staring back at you in the mirror every morning.
Resistance to change is universal. It invades all classes and cultures.
It seizes us all by the throat trying to choke all forward movement toward progress.
Sound dramatic?
Maybe.
But think about it—how many times have you heard someone say:
- “I’d love to start a business, but now’s not the right time…”
- “I’m just not a salesperson…”
- “I could never do what you do…”
Those aren’t statements of fact.
They’re resistance to change in in disguise.
It’s Funny But It’s True
“How many people does it take to change a lightbulb? Four. One to change the bulb and three to sit around talking about how good the old lightbulb was.”
Funny and painfully accurate, at the same time.
People will literally sit in the dark talking about how great the light used to be instead of putting in a new bulb.
And here’s the thing—when you’re building a home business, you’re not just asking people to change a lightbulb.
You’re asking them to completely rewire how they think about income, security, time freedom, and their own potential.
Why Change Feels Impossible (Even When It Isn’t)
For nearly 2,000 years, people believed Aristotle was right when he said heavier objects fall faster than lighter ones. Aristotle was regarded as the greatest thinker of all time—surely he couldn’t be wrong.
But he was & all it would have taken was 1 curious person who was willing to test the idea.
But nobody did it for 2,000 years.
In 1589, Galileo climbed the Leaning Tower of Pisa, summoned learned professors, and dropped two weights—one ten pounds, one weighing one pound. Both landed at the same time.
Case closed, right?
Nope!
… the professors denied what they’d seen with their own eyes. They continued to say Aristotle was right.
The power of conventional wisdom was so strong that educated people refused to believe their own eyes.
Sound familiar?
How many times have you shared your business opportunity with someone who:
- Sees the potential but convinces themselves it “wouldn’t work for them”
- Watches you succeed but continue to insist they “could never do that”
- Shown someone absolutely PROOF (like many different people succeeding) but they still continue to believe “it wont’ work” or “it’s not a legit way to make money.”
This is why educating your prospects is so critical.
You’re not just sharing information—you’re helping them see past their own resistance to change, and over time, helping them see the truth of what’s possible for them, so they’ll have the courage to make a start.
The 2 Catalysts of Change
Accoring to John Maxwell, people change when 2 things happen..
1. They hurt enough that they have to change
The job layoff. The health scare. The credit card debt that finally breaks you. The relationship that crumbles under financial stress.
The shame of wanting more for the poeple you love while realizing you’ve allowed fear to steal the life you could have given to yourself and your family if you’d only been willing to take action.
Sometimes pain is the best teacher.
This is why they say that whether someone joins you or not is more about timing than it is about how good your product or business is.
Things change for people, and sometimes, those changing circumstances bring pain or awareness that wasn’t there before.
When this happens, suddenly they’re open to things they weren’t open to before.
If you’re consistent, you’ll be there to help them, when the time is right.
2. They learn enough that they want to change
This is where your content, your stories, your training, and your patient service come in.
When someone learns there’s a better way—and believes it’s possible for them—change becomes inevitable.
This is why top leaders never stop educating.
They’re constantly leading by example, clearing up the path and building belief.
Think about it: joining a business is a form of change.
Purchasing a product is a form of change.
Your job is to make that change feel not just possible, but desirable.
The Mystic’s Prayer (And Why It Matters to You)
“When I was young, my prayer was: ‘Lord, give me the energy to change the world.’
As I approached middle age, I realized my life was half gone without changing a single soul, so I changed my prayer: ‘Lord, give me the grace to change all those who come into contact with me—my family and friends.’
Now that I am old and my days are numbered, I finally understand: ‘Lord, give me the grace to change myself.'”
The mystic concluded: “If I had prayed for this right from the start, I would not have wasted my life.”
But here’s the beautiful irony: when you finally focus on changing yourself, you become the kind of person who naturally inspires change in others.
Not through manipulation or pressure, but through example.
Your Secret Superpower
Over my 2 decades in buildling a business from home, I’ve discovered that one of my greatest superpowers is the ability I have to get myself excited for change.
It’s not always easy. Sometimes, the things we must change about ourselves are freaking HARD and the process SUCKS.
But when you do the work, to motivate yourself to make that change, you’ve done something magical.
You’ve given yourself the FEELING of accomplishment as you see yourself making progress in an area that required more than you thought you could give.
And when you give yourself evidence that you can do hard things, you believe in yourself more and you get the essense of the purpose of life inside your heart and soul.
Zig Ziglar said “Sales is not a thing in the world but a transferrence of feeling” and when you have this FEELING of the magic of change inside you, you can bet your bottom dollar that the people around you will feel it to.
Your influence will be magnetic and people will want to follow you because they can sense the electricity around the person you’re in the process of becoming.
This is your secret superpower.
And it starts with change.
So what’s the ONE thing you’re committed to changing now?
What’s the thing you KNOW you’ve needed to change, and wanted to change but have been putting off because of whatever story you’ve been telling yourself?
You don’t have to tell me what it is, but you do have to be honest with yourself and decide to change starting now, IF that is, you want to continue this path of growth. 🙂
I believe we always have better things waiting for us in our futures for 2 reasons…
At any point in time we can…
- Learn something new
- Do something different
This is why the future can be better, if we’re willing to change.
Thanks for reading & hope you have an awesome day,

PS: One of the BEST ways to change for the better, IMO, is to be consistant with a daily, morning routine. This routine should involve reading, reviewing habits & goals, perhaps some prayer or meditation – basically time dedicated to personal change. It’s worked magic in my life and I believe it can work magic in yours too.
