Success Upside Down

Yesterday I had an interesting conversation with a great friend and freedom crusader Dave Grosz.

Dave was telling me about an audio program called Cultivating and Unshakable Character by Jim Rohn, that he continues to listen to over and over again.

(definitely one of my favorites)

He then told me how many other audios or podcasts he’ll listen to just once, and be done with.

What’s the difference?

I told him how I’ve done the same thing and then gave him my theory.

We then talked about how there doesn’t seem to be as much of that kind of content produced nowadays.

In the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Steven Covey noticed the same thing in his scan of success literature over the past century.

He said there was a noticeable shift from what he called “The Character Ethic” to “The Personality Ethic.”

A shift from the core to the cover.

One very clear example of this is how success is defined.

In much of what you read today – when people talk about success – they focus mainly on material wealth like money, cars, homes, trips, etc.

The cover.

In Napoleon Hill’s 12 great riches of life, Economic Security comes in dead last on the list at #12, the very bottom.

What comes before?

The core.

Most people have success flip flopped – completely, upside down.

Maybe there really is a lost essence of success and like my friend Dave told me yesterday,

  1. Great post Paul! I’ve noticed and wondered about this myself as well. There is a book called “the slight edge” and a video on youtube by Jim Rohn of a seminar he held back in the 80’s. I’ve read that book 9 times over the past 2 years and watched that video about a dozen times. It’s not necessarily that I learn something new each time. It’s more like, what I’ve already learned from them becomes more deeply ingrained into the pattern of my consciousness, which I think is the only way we can really ever change.

    • Hey Shawn!

I read the slight edge by Jeff Olsen years ago and loved it – I need to go back through it again! Thanks for the reminder.. Do you have the link to the Jim Rohn Seminar? I’d love to see it.

And i think you’re absolutely right. Repetition of the good stuff – a GREAT way to retrain the brain and change.. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and leaving me your thoughts.

      To freedom and beyond! 😉

I think several people have this on their channels. Until it gets taken down for copyright infringement haha.

I’ve wondered if there’s a longer version of this you can purchase somewhere, but I’ve never been able to find it.

Thanks again for all you do 🙂
